An electrocardiogram, also called an EKG or ECG, records the heart’s electrical activity through electrodes placed on the skin. It can provide information about rhythm and rate but must be interpreted with symptoms and medical history.

Before your visit
Wear clothing that allows access to the chest and avoid lotions or oils on the skin the day of the test.
Call 911 for severe chest pain, serious difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness or another life-threatening emergency.
